TWO MAIN DESIGN FEATURES
1. LEDGES
The upper part of Savu tasting glass has small ledges, carefully positioned and sized volumetric planes. They imitate the distillation process and allow just the right alcohol evaporation from a tiny amount of whisky.
2. Hourglass Shape
The novel hourglass shape with its neck curbs the alcohol evaporation and escape into your nose from the lower part. Optionally, for a perfect sealing one can use a small piece of ice.
Whisky aromas belong to everyone
“Vanilla and caramel aromas with fruity undertone.” or “, Granny Smith apple with a touch of citrus and a piety finish.” Sounds fantastic, but leaves most of us wondering: Where are these flavours and scents then? How come I cannot sense them?
All these aromas really do exist in whiskies, but with traditional whisky glasses they just go mostly unnoticed. Because alcohol fumes numb our sense of smell, there is often a large gap between our personal experience and the actual aromas in whisky.
Need for a better whisky glass
Alcohol is an essential part of whisky, but it is by no means the most important part. The character of whisky emerges from sensations evoked by its aromas. These natural aromas are what makes whisky such a special beverage. Unfortunately, these aromas often remain hidden. This problem persists as long as our noses and our brains are numbed and overwhelmed by the evaporating excess alcohol fumes.
With our noses out of the picture we cannot really taste the whisky! There is a need for a better whisky glass.
LABORATORY Measurement of alcohol vapour
Tasting and smelling are subjective experiences and almost impossible to quantify. However, we can objectively measure how much alcohol vapour there is at the top of the glass. This is where the nose is when we sniff and taste.
The more alcohol vapour there is at the top of the glass, the less we sense aromas because our smell receptors and the brain are busy sensing the alcohol fumes. We say often ‘alcohol numbing’ or ‘alcohol burn’ because these describe the sensation accurately.
SAVU outperforms traditional glasses because it makes the sensing of aromas easy by eliminating the alcohol burn in the nose.
The figure compares alcohol evaporation of SAVU and a traditional whisky glass. It is clear that with SAVU (brown dots and line) the alcohol fumes are rapidly reduced and the aroma sensing becomes easy. With the traditional glass (black dots and line) the high level of alcohol fumes makes aroma sensing challenging, practically forever.(*)

Why are SAVU Glasses so expensive compared to other glasses?
SAVU Glass is the only truly functional glassware in the world and removes nose numbing volatile vapours to unlock the essence of the Distiller’s craft. Each glass is handmade in a Finland by a Master Glass Maker with some 10 processes involved in making each glass. So, each glass is slightly unique.
Our glass design is patented and developed after many years of experimentation and many (many) prototypes to come up with the SAVU glass – the only glass where Form meets Function providing a truly functional whisky glass that removes the ethanol and unlocks the essence of the Distiller’s craft.
Are SAVU Glasses really handmade?
Yes- see above.
They seem fragile. How do they compare with a traditional tasting glass in terms of durability?
While they seem light and fragile, they are made from Borosilicate material which is the preferred material that allows our Master Glass Makers to add the innovative ledges which are the SAVU difference.
Can SAVU Glasses go through the Dishwasher?
Yes – we wash ours after tastings on the top shelf of the dishwasher.
What if I break a SAVU Glass?
Being a glass product, breakages do happen. Contact us and we will assist with a discount on a replacement.
Does the SAVU Glass attenuate or reduce the nose of the whisky as well as removing the ethanol?
The glass certainly eliminates the ethanol burn but does not reduce the nose of the whisky. We do receive this comment from time to time, but independent laboratory research has found this is generally a case of the nose being “numbed” by the strong anaesthetic “fumes” when using a traditional tasting glass first. It takes around 2 minutes for the nose to “reset” after nosing with other than a SAVU Glass. Coffee beans can also assist in “resetting” the nose.
The ability for Whisky drinkers to detect and enjoy whisky aromas is significantly reduced by these anaesthetic vapours, and is well document by science including in: Wang and Cadwallader, Beverages 2024, 10, 116.
Do different people get different benefits from the SAVU Glass?
Yes – independent research shows as many as 85% of men and 97% of women don’t like the ethanol burn encountered in all glasses other than SAVU Glass. Women also have a finer sense of smell, and we have found they love our glass, both for the ethanol reduction/elimination and the elegance/design of the glass
Who is purchasing SAVU Glass?
Several distilleries and many whisky professionals use SAVU is whisky production and putting together tasting notes. Beginners and experienced aficionados report a more pleasant nosing/tasting experience and an overall deeper and more nuanced enjoyment of their drams. Does SAVU Glass work with all Whiskies including Peated styles?
Yes. While the glass eliminates the adverse effects of the ethanol sharpness and nasal burn, it in no way diminishes the access to the sweet malt oil notes and the all-important florals and complex sweet and savoury cask character. In fact, the absence of the harsh elements makes the nosing even more pleasant and informative.
With peated whisky, the peat phenols are carried by the malt oil, so the SAVU glass is an excellent aid to better evaluation and identification of the complex peat phenolic elements.
What if I don’t like my SAVU Glass after purchasing from you?

Can you print a logo on a SAVU Glass?
